Edge of the Empire - Session 4



STAR WARS
EDGE OF THE EMPIRE

CHAPTER IV:
MEDICINE RUN



In the days of the empire, an honest cargo-hauler finds himself on the wrong end of Imperial tariffs.  Labeled a smuggler, Cedric Valeran and first mate Amelia Crane are forced into the Outer Rim to earn a living.  As their jobs become more dangerous, they hire a shistavanen named Tagg Rosk to provide some much needed muscle to their crew.  During their travels, Amelia meets a twi'lek named Shala Kinsa who had fallen on hard times and was addicted to the spice ryll.  Taking interest in her life, Amelia brings her aboard to give her companionship and aid her in her attempt to break her addiction.

After accepting a dangerous job to smuggle medicine to a prisoner of the street gang, known as the Caike Syndicate, the crew travels to Caike.  The city is a battleground, as rival gangs violently compete for supremacy.  After finding the city blue prints, the crew decides to descend into the sewers and enter the Syndicate's residence from a sewer access in the yard.

CHAPTER III:
SNAGGING BLACKMAIL



In the days of the empire, an honest cargo-hauler finds himself on the wrong end of Imperial tariffs.  Labeled a smuggler, Cedric Valeran and first mate Amelia Crane are forced into the Outer Rim to earn a living.  As their jobs become more dangerous, they hire a shistavanen named Tagg Rosk to provide some much needed muscle to their crew.  During their travels, Amelia meets a twi'lek named Shala Kinsa who had fallen on hard times and was addicted to the spice ryll.  Taking interest in her life, Amelia brings her aboard to give her companionship and aid her in her attempt to break her addiction.

Looking to modify their ship for better defense and speed, Cedric meets with a mechanic junkyard owner named Aelruino who arrives to inspect their vessel.  After offering armor and speed modifications, Cedric haggles the price by offering to rescue Aelruino's daughter from the grip of Jazeen the Hutt.

Edge of the Empire - Session 2

CHAPTER II:
EVERY DAY I'M SMUG-G-LIN'


In the days of the empire, an honest cargo-hauler finds himself on the wrong end of Imperial tariffs.  Labeled a smuggler, Cedric Valeran and first mate Amelia Crane are forced into the Outer Rim to earn a living.  As their jobs become more dangerous, they hire a shistavanen named Tagg Rosk to provide some much needed muscle to their crew.  During their travels, Amelia meets a twi'lek named Shala Kinsa who had fallen on hard times and was addicted to the spice ryll.  Taking interest in her life, Amelia brings her aboard to give her companionship and aid her in her attempt to break her addiction.

Now on Toethen after a successful rescue job, the crew enjoys some R&R as Cedric searches for more work.  Toethen is a planet with poisonous atmosphere, with docks above ground in controlled spheres.  Enjoying a few drinks at a local cantina, Amelia, Shala, and Tagg witness an angry mob storm the cantina and take a man and his lady-of-the-evening outside, shouting that he brought the Empire to them, and threatening to kill them both.


Tagg, no fan of the Empire, seems to join the mob, but his motives are unclear.  Amelia and Shala decide to follow behind and Cedric sees the mob on his way to find his crew.  When he tries to learn what is happening, the lady-of-the-evening throws herself at him and slips a data chip into his pocket.

Edge of the Empire - Session 1

CHAPTER I:
LENGU RESCUE


In the days of the empire, an honest cargo-hauler finds himself on the wrong end of Imperial tariffs.  Labeled a smuggler, Cedric Valeran and first mate Amelia Crane are forced into the Outer Rim to earn a living.  As their jobs become more dangerous, they hire a shistavanen named Tagg Rosk to provide some much needed muscle to their crew.  During their travels, Amelia meets a twi'lek named Shala Kinsa who had fallen on hard times and was addicted to the spice ryll.  Taking interest in her life, Amelia brings her aboard to give her companionship and aid her in her attempt to break her addiction.

In a desperate such for work, the crew overhears the calamity of one Cander Shesh, whose wife has been captured by trandoshan slavers.  Tagg and Shala, whom have personally suffered due to slavery, cannot turn a blind eye.  Eager to due something good, Cedric takes on a dangerous resuce mission to free her, for a fee.

On the planet Lengu, the crew prepares to infiltrate the slaver's base of operations, owned by a small trandoshan named Groms Thashin.  If they bring proof of his demise, Cander will provide them with a small bonus.

Diverging Priorities

I'm posting this quick, short address before my next roleplaying session post to inform anyone that reads my work on this blog of my current state of mind.

Project M has been placed on hold.  I set out to create a rich, personalized roleplaying game system, and I am beginning to suspect my motives were not in the right place.  Ultimately, the 1980s DragonQuest is, in my opinion, the closest system to perfection for medieval-fantasy settings.  This system's magic is not designed for high fantasy, however, and a module should be designed for that end.  Otherwise, I see no reason not to use this system.

My attempt to create Project M was to use everything I liked about every system I've ever played into one that was perfect.  Perfection doesn't exist in this mortal coil.  I resign my self to designing modules for DragonQuest to suit the world that I created over ten years ago at my computer for my brother and two friends to enjoy.  There will be many, many more adventures for this world, but my need to share it with the world has been put on hold due to a more pressing project.

Four Mages and a Locked Door

Last weekend, we had our first session in which we used the latest version of Project M.  I had meant to write a post on it the following day, but I felt incredibly disheartened.  The entire session was brief, and not a lot happened.  The majority of the session involved the party - four of the five being mages - trying to open a locked door.  In the end, the one non-mage kicked in the wall beside the door, and the door remained locked and closed forever.

It was bad.  It wasn't my fault, nor was it my players.  They all wanted to test the new magic system, and their first obstacle happen to be an inanimate object.  I wanted them to open the door with some cleverness, but their spells were clever-less.  The most frustrating part was that they had a thief - someone with the ability to open this door.  He had been deprived of his tools, however.  They created lock-picks made of ice, but he failed his roll and they broke.  Something at the back of my mind was gnawing at me, but I couldn't figure it out until last night.

Last night, we were introducing a friend of mine to roleplaying, having never done it before.  I knew he was a fan of Star Wars, and my brother had discovered this new system in that universe through a web comic he reads.  Unfortunately, this system - Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - was being designed by Fantasy Flight.

Project M - Stage 1

The time has come (once again for some) to test my latest rendition of Project M.  This is the eleventh year since I started my misguided first attempt at Project M, and this is the ninth version.  The world of Project M was the setting for our last DragonQuest campaign, and indeed that campaign was simply in preparation for this latest version.

This ninth version of Project M looks very much like a DragonQuest 4th edition, which I'm fairly okay with, as DragonQuest is the one roleplaying system I have never stopped playing.  It makes sense that my system would be modeled after my favorite system, with the goal to modify and improve areas I want, and to create something that distinguishes my system from the archaic DragonQuest 2nd & 3rd editions.

DragonQuest - Session 18 (Finale!)

The party catchs word that the High General has found the Councilor of Lyconia to be guilty of treason.  Sibyll is sent by the Council to dispatch the Councilor, as he refuses to give up his position.  Afterward, the party - Elenya Lindale, Sibyll Demier, V2Z4, Silvertooth Dreadwind, Kirin Drakos, and Talphius Dragonbane - meet their army at Lockeface.

There they meet the commanders of their force and their force's commanders:  Evanessa Vorpaltusk of the Vorpaltusk Tribe, Fleet Commander Dwin Horizonbreaker - Captain of the Glorious Dawn - of the Lockeface Defense Navy, Lord Southpaw of the Southpaw Lodge, Lieutenant Kathur Omendusk of the Shadows of Valor, Sir Benjamin Skyward of the Griffin Riders of Kog, and Lieutenant Adrian Foestrike of Drakos Company.  They are also rejoined with Thourin Stonefist and Bayson Mogul, who have come to help them in the final battle.  Gathered in the war room, they plan their attack on the isle of Icurnas.

Horizonbreaker reports that his scout ships have seen that Admiral Krakenjaw and his fleet have joined the Icurnas fleet, outnumbering his own by three-to-one.  The decide that the Griffin Riders will aid the ship as they try to land troops ashore.  Thourin goes to find a merchant ship to help him find a kraken that he can cast a spell over and control, hoping to give their side an advantage.  The party summons the Avatar of the Fire Demi-god.  They know he cannot step foot on Icurnas, but they ask him to help battle the ships, and he agrees.

Crisis Struck GM Jaken's Adventures

For those of you that keep up with my DragonQuest sessions, you'll notice that I mention my computer decided to kill itself less then two weeks ago.  I have since purchased a new computer, with a shout out to my brother for the loan I needed to do so.

As I have mentioned time and again, and even made the topic of discussion, I am deep in the process of creating a roleplaying system of my own.  What I may not have mentioned, is that I'm also trying to write a novel.  All of this information, much to my dismay, is stored on my broken computer.  With real computers, it would be a simply matter to repair, but its a Mac.

DragonQuest - Session 17

It is night, and the party sleeps.  Sibyll Demier and Kirin Drakos are at the Benlag capitol, while V2Z4, Elenya Lindale, and Silvertooth Dreadwind sleep in the city of Mog in the Dragon Plains.  As they sleep, they all appear in a silver hall.

The chamber appears to be made of pure silver, with statues of angels made also of silver.  Two beings of light stand before them, and they recognize them from the Benlag island.  The pair were guarding a Celestial Vault, and have brought the party there.  They tell the party that the higher powers have deemed their quest worthy of blessing.  The pair ask each party member what one thing would they like from the vault.

DragonQuest - Session 16

Sorry for the long delay, my computer decided to kill itself.  I bought a new one.  Without further delay: what the hell happened last session?  A bunch of stuff, that's what.

Three weeks have passed since Lord Joron dispatched his troops to rescue Benlag.  At the capitol city, Sibyll Demier, Kirin Drakos, and Anton Estio (whom I have incorrectly called Esio) fight a losing battle to hold the city.  The enemy seemed content to draw things out, attacking in such a way to minimize casualties.  Sixty-percent of the city had been lost, and the defending army had all but been destroyed.  Word arrives that Lord Joron has arrived, and will arrive in the city in three days.  The Icurnas army knows this as well, and everyone knows that the city could fall in mere hours should Icurnas bring its full force to bear.

Meanwhile, Benlag and his host of eight-thousand were lured unto the ice bridge, and a magic ritual destroyed part of the bridge stranding them from the island.  They have been ferrying soldiers, but are in no position to aid the capitol.

Lord Ironbrow brings the party, and Garif of the Shadows of Valor, to a meeting.  They makes plans for their final, hopeless defense, as Icurnas is sure to attack in the morning and annihilate them.  An old Loresinger shows up, and tells them the time of the prophecy has arrived.  He tells them an ancient tale.
