For those of you that keep up with my DragonQuest sessions, you'll notice that I mention my computer decided to kill itself less then two weeks ago. I have since purchased a new computer, with a shout out to my brother for the loan I needed to do so.
As I have mentioned time and again, and even made the topic of discussion, I am deep in the process of creating a roleplaying system of my own. What I may not have mentioned, is that I'm also trying to write a novel. All of this information, much to my dismay, is stored on my broken computer. With real computers, it would be a simply matter to repair, but its a Mac.
Don't get me wrong, I love Apple's OS X, but their desktops are pathetic. Their laptops are the stuff of legend, but the iMac leaves much to be desired. Granted, I bought a second generation Intel Mac, and it is about five years old. Had I another THREE-THOUSAND DOLLARS, I could - and likely would - replace it.
So, now I have a Windows computer. Which is great, because I've been wanting to evolve beyond console gaming back to my PC roots (my first experience with digital gaming being Warcraft 2, Starcraft, Age of Empires, and the first Unreal Tournament). It wasn't until the release of the first Halo did I ever own a console at all. And I loosely owned four Xboxs until the 360 was released (long story, to irrelevant to go into).
Back on topic, I am now very pleased. I was able to turn on my broken computer for about two minutes, during which I backed-up my novel and my game. Victory! Now, my work is safe. This has also been a wake up call for me, and I shall now be more vigilante in backing-up, and work hard to get my work published into a physical format.
So, the new year is looking good. I look forward to updating!
