Edge of the Empire - Session 1

STAR WARS
EDGE OF THE EMPIRE

CHAPTER I:
LENGU RESCUE

In the days of the empire, an honest cargo-hauler finds himself on the wrong end of Imperial tariffs.  Labeled a smuggler, Cedric Valeran and first mate Amelia Crane are forced into the Outer Rim to earn a living.  As their jobs become more dangerous, they hire a shistavanen named Tagg Rosk to provide some much needed muscle to their crew.  During their travels, Amelia meets a twi'lek named Shala Kinsa who had fallen on hard times and was addicted to the spice ryll.  Taking interest in her life, Amelia brings her aboard to give her companionship and aid her in her attempt to break her addiction.

In a desperate such for work, the crew overhears the calamity of one Cander Shesh, whose wife has been captured by trandoshan slavers.  Tagg and Shala, whom have personally suffered due to slavery, cannot turn a blind eye.  Eager to due something good, Cedric takes on a dangerous resuce mission to free her, for a fee.

On the planet Lengu, the crew prepares to infiltrate the slaver's base of operations, owned by a small trandoshan named Groms Thashin.  If they bring proof of his demise, Cander will provide them with a small bonus.

The outpost is a land-base for three trandoshan slaver ships working under Groms Thashin.  Though a lucrative operation, Groms spends most of the profit to buy wookie slaves for him to hunt in his extensive underground arena.  One neglect that has become of this is that his security system uses the T4X-Zulu Planetary Detection Grid, which has a common known flaw.  It can read movement made by humanoids, but in order to pick up a hovering craft, they need to be of some size.  Speeder bikes go completely unnoticed by this system, and the crew has rented out four of them.

Reeva’s husband, Cander, is offered 4,000 credits for her safe return.  He also will pay an addition 2,000 if they bring him the body of Groms Thashin, as he seeks vengeance against the trandoshan that kidnapped his wife, but is not a fighter, himself.  Just in case they seek the bounty, Groms’ personal slaver ship is currently docked, and the other two are away.  The base also has one attack craft for defense.

Using their speeder bikes, the crew reaches the base.  Cedric and Shala showed great ability with their bikes, and managed to reserve plenty of fuel in the event they needed to boost away.  Confront by a team of four guards at the front gate, the crew decides to ambush them.  Tagg, a melee fighter, attempts to sneak closer and surprise them.  He is spotted by a fire team hidden in the mountainous terrain above.  A firefight ensues, and the crew defeats the entire outer defenses.

They reach the front gate, and Shala tries to slice the door.  It opens, but the entire base is alerted.  They defeat more guards and find a terminal.  Shala determines the location of Reeva and they make their way.  They find her and rescue her.

As they attempt to escape, a blast door suddenly shuts and separates them!  Shala and Tagg are left with Reeva, while Cedric and Amelia are cut off.  Groms Thashin appears with a host of guards, and attacks Shala and Tagg.  They duck into an adjacent corridor to hide from the blaster fire, and Shala slices the door for them to make an escape, throwing frag grenades behind them and sealing the door.

Cedric and Amelia search for a way to regroup with their friends, and accidentally enter Groms' training room.  Automated blasters drop from the sealing and shoot at them.  Together, they simply destroy the turrets and move along.  At an intersection, they meet up with the others.

With the exit in sight, Groms appears once more to challenge them.  He proves a worthy adversary, and the crew defeat him by the skin of their teeth.  Tagg takes his head and they leave the base.  They are chased by speeders, but they use their bikes to get away.

They return to Toethen and claim the reward.  They take a few days to rejuvenate and relax.
