After we parted with Arggo, with two G's, we headed to the west, towards the safe zone. We got there alright, some minor scuffling inside but the guards took care of it. I was able to trade some stuff we found for food and stashed some stuff for later. After we were all good and ready, we headed out east towards the big city.
We arrived at the edge of the city, where the big major highway went over it, and a major street through it. I tried to explain to Haversman that this city was full of zombies and people that probably want to kill us for what we got, and that we should probably stick to the highway as much as possible. He said that he was hungry enough he could eat a horse, and we needed to go building by building searching for as much food as possible, and we couldn't dilly dally around the top. I finally relented, and we headed in along the road.
As we got near the city, there was a surprising lack of zombies - made me quite a bit nervous. This big a city, there should be hundreds, but I wasn't gonna complain too much. We made it to the first couple of buildings alright, killin' a few zeds here and there. Found ourselves a nice big backpack. Haversman took it. We saw the edge of a military outpost inside the city and thought, "oo! there's probably a gun in there! or at least some MREs!" So we started making our way towards, and we got swarmed by like fifteen zombies. As we beat their heads in with a hammer and a hatchet, that's when we heard the loud gunshot, echoing across the center of town. And that's when I freaked out.
I dropped the zombie in front of me, turned around and said, "We need to get behind cover! Now!" So we dove behind a building to our right, and we took cover. That's when Haversman pointed out a guy running across the rooftops away from the gunshot. I kept an eye on him til he ran out of sight, and thought we were good. That's when he started coming at us on the ground. He only had a baseball bat and I said, "Ah, he's only got a baseball bat, we might be good." And no sooner had I said that, he reached into his bag and pulled out a shotgun. I ain't ashamed to say it, but I screamed like a little girl. As we ducked back around the other side of the building, behind sandbags, I said, "He's got a shotgun! Take cover!"
Luckily, he went right past us right on the other side of the sandbags. Haversman said, "Where is he, I can't see him." I said, "Shh, he's right on the other side of those sandbags." As we waited with our hammers out, prepared for anything, Haversman noticed that he was pissing off some zombies across the street, and he wasn't as close as we originally thought. And that's when we took off down the street, and we kept telling each other, "We need to find a building to hide in!" Taking out zombies here and there, and that's when we found the apartment up on our right.
As we bust through the front doors, we each take down a zombie standing right inside, and we start clearing it, room by room, floor by floor, until we got to the top of the fifth floor. The stairwell had collapsed, so we couldn't get any higher. There was a bit of food and some painkillers inside some of the rooms. And while Haversman was checking the last of the rooms, I pulled out my binoculars to try and see where everyone went. Satisfied that I couldn't see anymore humans, just a bunch of zeds, I realized how tired I really was. Both me and Haversman found a nice corner, and pulled some trash bags over us, and fell asleep.
