GM Commentary: So it's been a month or more, but we finally had the time to sit down for another session. We had one no-show, but that's never a surprise. When we sat down, I opened the floor to the players, asking if they wanted to continue where we left off, or start a new campaign - since we had been so long without a session. They decided to continue, however one player wanted to roll a new character, which I allowed.
Having completed their good deeds in Lockeface, The party prepared to head north to the island home of the Benlag, a warrior sect of the local government, who were threatening to withdraw their support of said government. Hoping to change their minds, or at least get them to join the cause against Icurnas, the party makes ready.
Thourin Stonefist, however, had seen enough of the ocean. He longed for his cave back home. He declared the wall he had formed from the earth that now protected Lockeface as his monument to their adventurers, and booked passage on one last cruise that would take him home. Before leaving, he bestowed Sibyll Demier with a portion of his wealth.
So, the party headed north. When they arrived, they were greeted by ships that were uneasy of their vessels ghostly appearance. Once they convinced them that they were not hostile, they were allowed to dock. It was dusk by then, and the entered a nearly quiet town. One tavern was bursting with light and merriment, so they went there.
The tavern was filled with large human warriors, who sung songs of great fights against werebears, whales, and yeti. Silvertooth Dreadwind found himself in their company, and was horribly drunk in no time at all. V2Z4 and Elenya Lindale tried to speak to the group. They learned that the Benlag thought the government deceived, believing there was some mystical foe beyond the West World's Fall. Instead, the Benlag wanted to focus on the threats closer to home. Elenya and V2Z4 tried to convince them not to abandon the government, and told them of a great power rising in the central isles. But, the drunk denizens would not hear it. Sibyll found herself hiding in a corner, and a mysterious voice spoke to her. She chose to ignore it.
A late comer to the party, a man with only his left arm, approached V2Z4. He said that he'd be willing to listen to their plea for warriors in the morning, and told him to meet at the Southpaw Lodge in then. V2Z4 agreed.
Elenya found Sibyll and began to speak to the mysterious voice, which introduced itself as "The Shadow". Eventually, the festivities died down and they headed back to their ship to sleep. The Shadow followed them, invisible to their eyes.
In the morning, Silvertooth was too hung over to leave the ship. V2Z4 told them he was heading to the lodge. The Shadow, hidden in their crow's nest, spoke out. One-Nostril their kobold leader, questioned what the voice was, whilst drinking something called rat scum. Elenya explained they met the Shadow at the bar. One-Nostril implied that Elenya met a man at the bar, hinting to a romantic encounter. Elenya slugged him in response, and he cried, "Agh! The rat scum's in my eye!"
Elenya and V2Z4, with the Shadow following in the... shadows, headed to Southpaw Lodge. True to its name, every warrior their was left-handed, as was V2Z4, as a matter-of-fact. They met with the leader, whom they had met in the bar, Korod of the Southpaw. They told him of the Icurnas, and their mark. He showed them a corpse of a yeti, bearing the same mark. He agreed to join, but under two conditions. One, he would only fight beside those that proved themselves, and two, he would take command of any ground incursion that occurred, to further bring glory to his lodge.
When they asked what they had to do to prove themselves, he gave them a quest. He gave them a map that led to an ancient ruins, where the spirit of a great warrior lingers to test those that are found mighty. If their leader could defeat him, and be marked by him, then Korod would join them.
Eager to join the mighty warriors of the Southpaw to their ranks, currently made up of themselves, the Vorpaltusks, and whatever aid the Fleet Commander of Lockeface could render when they were in need, they agreed to the terms. They returned to the ship to discuss who among them should face the challenge. Silvertooth was eager to do it, though he lacked the prowess in single-combat compared to his comrades. The most likely choices were either V2Z4 or Kirin Drakos. Next time, one of them shall face the spirit, and discover if they are worthy.
