In Progress: "Gladiators" Development

I've recently decided to try and make some games, mostly in a team with a good friend of mine.  One game I'm working on, solo, is a game I'm calling "Gladiators."

Alright, so I just spent the last five minutes trying to start this paragraph with something other than "I've" like I did in the previous paragraph.  Success.  Anyway, I've always loved the romanticized version of the Roman gladiators.  I thought it would be a load of fun to sit down and play a game where the players were gladiators, fighting to survive and for freedom.

My original idea was for a board game, where each player was a gladiator piece that fought in different competitions.  The more I designed the game the more I decided to take a different approach.  I eventually worked my way up to a working (albeit basic) prototype and was able to play a game with my family.

Surprisingly, the first play-test went perfectly.  Not only did everyone have fun, but they are all looking forward to the next play-test.  After all, the goal of a game is to be fun, right?  Well, I'm currently working on the next prototype, adding a few elements and removing others.

This is a brief post of me just saying that I've decided to post the progress of this game, and other games I'm putting "In Progress."  I'll include pictures as each stage of development improves.  The first handful of pictures are going to look almost silly, but bear with me.

I hope this is the first of many games I design, and that it will get published!  But, until then, stay tuned to see how Gladiators grows!
