After much thought, I decided that the Star Trek campaign and I won't mix. I had an extra week to plan our next adventure, and I came up with nothing. I thought back to my more successful campaigns, trying to find a suitable replacement for my players. If you've read my System Spotlights, you'll know how much I love the 1980's DragonQuest system. So, I decided it was time for me to run another game using that system.
I was happy to see the positive reaction from my players, as my DragonQuest games are often quite entertaining. So, we spent last Friday rolling up new characters. I would have posted yesterday, but I ended up spending the entire day at the beach, so there's that.
So, the new campaign is taking place in a fantasy world of my design. This particular world is one I've used for campaigns since my first game a decade or so ago, so myself and my long-time players are more than just familiar with it.
Other players are new to the setting, and I imagine it can be a bit intimidating, seeing how I have twenty-eight fleshed out and fully playable races to choose from. Among the list are a few typical favorites, so when I ended up with a Dragonkin and a Drow, I was not surprised.
Let's introduce the cast.
The first adventurer is a forest elf woman, skilled as a ranger and beast master, named Elenya Lindale. She has a pet wolf named Kaz, and will be the group's marksman. She is the youngest child of a merchant princess, and a bit of a rebel. She now ventures to the northern lands, looking for adventure. She is fascinated by her people's distant cousins, the elves of the great city Haven. She loves hearing the history of the city, and seeks knowledge and is fascinated by the tales and history of the magical city.
The second adventurer is a curious creation, one of the many constructs built by the gnomes that has, through some unknown means, gained a soul. He was designed to be a training construct to teach a gnomish lord's children the art of swordplay, but has since left his owner's service upon developing sentience. The gnomes have always been good to their mechanical folk that this occurs to, and he was given a large sum of coin to begin his journey. He has kept his manufacturing designation as his name: V2Z4 (V-two-Z-four). He is an adept swordsman, but he has also picked up on some skills of the mechanicians, in order to maintain himself. He finds that speaking with his sword is his best way to get to know someone.
The next two adventurers are both dwarves, however from very different folk. One dwarf is Bayson Mogul, a dwarf of the southern plains. He is also a ranger and beast master, with an elephant he trained himself named Infant. He is the fourth child of a farmer, who always wanted more out of life. He travels northward, in search of adventure and ways to challenge himself.
The other dwarf is a cave dwarf by the name of Thourin Stonefist. This cave dwarf took to the earth more-so than most. He is a skilled Earth mage, and has bound an earth elemental to him. He is truly one with nature, and does not understand the concept of constructed structures. He walks the world, wanting to learn from all manner of earth, from all regions. He seeks to master his understanding of the rock, stone, and dirt of the world, and how he can best find unity with them.
The next adventurer is a pariah, a drow woman of many talents. She is an assassin, beast master, and a tinkerer. She is Sibyll Demier. Up until recently, she served on a pirate vessel, as her father was a notorious pirate himself. She has found her self at-odds with the crew, and is trying to put as much distance between them and her as possible. She also has a pet hyena.
There are two more adventurers that are not yet ready, but they are already developing into interesting characters. I found it interesting that almost every single player wanted some kind of pet. The party size is nearly doubled by all the animal/elemental additions, but I think it will be manageable.
I look forward to our first real session, and for the hijinks that will undoubtedly ensure. Stay tuned!
