The party sails to the western mainland, under the direction of the Avatar, who told them to seek friends and that there were people there that could use their help. Being a seafaring man, Silvertooth Dreadwind knew of the great port Lockeface on the eastern shore of the mainland.
When they arrive at Lockeface, they see it surrounded by ship wrecks, some being the mark of the western Republic, and others with the mark of Icurnas. They dock and learn that the Icurnas (although the residents do not know them as such) have been attacking Lockeface for the past four months. Thourin Stonefist and Silvertooth head to the garrison to speak with the Fleet Master. Sibyll Demier and Elenya Lindale hit the market to buy some maps and listen to the local rumors and news. V2Z4 decides to volunteer with the relief efforts, trying to repair the damage of the raids.
Thourin and Silvertooth gain audience with the Fleet Master, and tell him that they have faced his enemy, the Icurnas, before, and defeated them. They tell him all they know about them, including that they are based somewhere in the middle isles. He asks them if they could do a job for him. An old weapons cache to the north went silent just as it was going to deliver new armaments to Lockeface. He asks the party to go see what happened, and reclaim it for his men.
At the market, the ladies learn that the state of Benlag is threatening to leave the Republic, and that the subcontinent belonging to the mountain dwarves has been under constant raid by an unknown assailant. Elenya gives some coin to an impoverished child, who later tries to pick her pocket.
Thourin and Silvertooth gather up the party, including Kirin Drakos, and tell them of the job they got. They decide to wait until morning before heading out. Come the morning, they bring provisions for a two day trip, and a crate and burlap sacks for anything they find that they want to bring back immediately.
The follow the cliff-coast to a point given to them on a map. The lower a robe and descend, leaving behind their animal companions. They find a small cave with an iron door at the back of it, which was described to them as the place. Silvertooth uses his ruby lock-picks, his gift from the Demigod of Fire, and opens the door. Thourin, able to see clearly in the deep, takes point and they enter the base.
They go about fifteen feet in when they find a stairway going down. At the bottom, they find a dead soldier. They continue down another hall they leads into a 'T' intersection. They decide to go left. Down the left hall is another 'T' intersection, this time with doors, both open. The one of the left appears forced open. They enter that room fist.
The room looks to be a office of some sort, with a desk and a bookshelf. Sitting at the desk is an elf with a harpoon in his neck. They check out the room thoroughly, and Silvertooth notices a metal stand that appears to be designed to hold something spherical, but the object was missing, on the desk. Thourin goes to the bookcase and starts to pull on the books, one by one, out of curiosity. One of them is actually a lever in disguise and the bookcase slides backwards and then reveals a door to another room.
Thourin peers in and sees an ancient suit of elven armor, with a sword, hanging on one wall. In the opposing corners are two stands, one covered in missives, the other with a single, solid piece of sculpted metal. At the center of the room, on the floor, is a runic circle. Elenya steps inside, sees the runes as elven before suddenly falling to sleep. The party cannot wake her, and V2Z4 notices a ward over the door that has been triggered. The earth elemental carries Elenya, and Thourin and V2Z4 enter the room freely. Thourin sees that the armor is of ancient craft, forged with a technique long ago forgotten. Silvertooth and Sibyll, being pirates, want to loot the armor. Silvertooth inspects the armor, and determines its just a normal suit of platemail, and loses interest. Thourin and V2Z4 decide to take the armor and sword, the sculpted metal, which Thourin knows is platinum, and the missives, with them to perhaps identify the elf. Lastly, Silvertooth had read over some of the paperwork in the office and had determined that there were twelve soliders stationed here.
The head down the other path and find living quarters and a mess hall. Inside the mess hall are over a dozen corpses, six soliders, six hobgoblins, and two naga. Attached the mess hall was a kitchen, with two dead cooks. Silvertooth pilfers the bodies for coin and they move on down to the first 'T' intersection. All the bodies are cold and the blood dry, as with the previous bodies. All the hobgoblins and naga bear the mark of Icurnas.
They follow the last path, with also ends in a 'T' intersection. To the left they hear, "Shh! Did y' hear somethin'?" The party freezes. Thourin casts the spell of walking unseen on each party member before they continue. They all peer around the corner and see half a dozen hobgoblins and one naga, all bearing the mark of Icurnas. The naga appears to be trying to open a massive vault door. Two of the hobgoblins discuss the noise they heard, and the naga orders them to go search the base again and they depart. Thourin begins to prepare a spell. After twenty minutes, the naga finally opens the vault. As he exclaims his success, Thourin casts his spell of sinking doom, which causes the earth to swallow the naga, killing him.
The ensuing struggle ends quickly. Thourin uses hands of earth to pin two hobgoblins to the ceiling, and V2Z4 and Kirin mob up the other two, with aid of a crossbow bolt from Silvertooth. The earth elemental goes off to kill the other two that had wandered off.
The party opens the vault and sees an array of armaments, including two disassembled ballistae, lots of ballista ammunition, and one cannon with ammunition. They decide to bring the cannon and its ammunition back with them. Thourin summons a second earth elemental to help carry the load.
They return to Lockeface with the cannon and the ancient armor. The Fleet Master thanks them, and gives them what reward he can, including an Officer's Sabre for Silvertooth. They show him the sculpted piece of metal, and he says the commander of the base was actually a Councilman in disguise, one of the leaders of the Republic. They begin to discuss ways of contacting the floating city of Haven, the seta of the Republic, when suddenly Icurnas ships are spotted heading in to port.
The party takes to the Dread Mist to join the defense. Eight Icurnas war sloops are coming, but the Republic has seven large galleys. Suddenly, a pair of krakens begin to attack the galleys, sinking three of them. Thourin casts spell of control animal and uses a kraken to destroy a sloop before coming around to attack the other kraken. Once the two krakens were in close proximity, he cast the spell again to control them both, turning them on the Icurnas ships.
A large mass moves under water, and a great hydra emerges, wrecking havoc on the Republic ships. Thourin turn the krakens on it, but they are no match. The Icurnas fleet is in ribbons, and turns back to flee while the Republic fleet surrounds the hydra. On land, hundreds of Icurnas naga come ashore and begin a slaughter while battling the Republic soldiers. The Fleet Master turns the cannon on them, and the party sees splashes of red on the shore.
After another fifteen minutes of fighting, the hydra and naga were routed. The Fleet Master is again indebted to the party. Thourin decides to use his earth magic to create a massive wall around Lockeface, with a single entry way for ships. The party stick around to train while he crafts the wall and uses his alchemy to brew potions for the soldiers. V2Z4 and Sibyll oversee the construction of ramparts atop the earth wall created by Thourin. Silvertooth and his kobold crew volunteer to help patrol around the area while the fleet licks its wounds.
